Job Description:

Organizes and conducts Speech-Language programs, and participates in educational and administrative duties inherent to the position. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.


Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent


1. Provides patient care including the following: Performs testing and evaluation procedures as indicated; plans Speech-language pathology program for each patient based on evaluation findings and physician prescription; instructs patient in home program, use of equipment and communication aids. Provides liaison with nursing divisions and medical staff with patient care and Speech-language patients. Promotes safe environment for patients and staff in hospital. Responsible for S.T. inventory and ordering of supplies. Maintains department in an orderly manner. (60%)


2. Records and reports patient initial, progress and discharge notes in a timely way. Attends scheduled team conferences and discharge planning meetings. (25%)


3. Represents the department when indicated at professional and related conference and meetings. (5%)


4. Reports to the Inpatient Supervisor regarding program development, form revisions and Quality Improvement as indicated. (5%)


5. Performs other work duties as assigned. (5%)

1. Master's degree in speech Language Pathology from an accredited institution. 2. Must be licensed or have a provisional license by Missouri State Board of Healing Arts prior to start date and ASHA certified 3. As required by the state, therapist obtains necessary annual CEU's maintaining compliance with state guidelines

Employee will be eligible for or licensed by the State Board of Healing Arts in Missouri Employee will hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association Must be certified in CPR The assessment, care and treatment provided by the Speech Language Pathologist will be consistent with the specific age related needs of the patient. The Speech Language Pathologist is competent to care for patient age groups including the child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric adult patient.

Employee is required to sit, stand and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lb.) medium (21-50 lb.) and heavy (50 lb. +) loads occasionally. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lb. with assistance. Employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is frequently required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to use both hands for simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards, temperature changes. Pt is frequently working with radiology/radiation services performing Modified Barium Swallows (Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%) Job Relationships: Member of a comprehensive health care team, including other health care providers, the patient, the patient's family and significant others. Provides direction to: Technicians and student technicians, clerical staff Supervised by: Director of Therapy Services and Inpatient Supervisor Supervises: Practicum students
