Job Description:
Position Overview COMPANY is currently seeking an--SVP & Head of
US Mortality Markets. The right candidate for this role will be an
ambassador for COMPANY and will have significant exposure to and
contact with senior level executives within COMPANY and with
COMPANY's clients, industry leaders and other financial services
professionals. We are seeking a leader to grow and develop
COMPANY's business in the US Mortality Markets and play a
proactive, positive and collaborative part in the ongoing
development of COMPANY's corporate structure, strategy and senior
management - reflecting the importance of the Business Unit, and
its team, to the overall success of COMPANY. In this role you will
develop business practices and a culture that enhances COMPANY's
global identity as the leading global provider of life & health
reinsurance and a global leader in financial services. As a leader
you will be expected to--motivate and engage all talent to meet &
exceed established goals and objectives. Responsibilities* Set the
strategy for USMM in order to grow and develop the business, in
accordance with direction from EVP, Head of U.S. & Latin American
Markets.--Participate in the development of the over-arching
strategy for US & LA Markets. Serve on the senior leadership team
for US & LA Markets.* Develop strong relationships with the
Executive Officers ("C-Suite") of target client companies.*
Identifying major trends, new developments, and strategic
opportunities and promoting awareness of such across the
oCompanynization.* Manage and take full responsibility for USMM to
meet or exceed the financial targets and business objectives for
the operation* Ensure proper procedures, infrastructure and
controls are in place to be able to accurately complete required
reports and management information on a timely basis.--Develop a
good understanding of key targeted clients' mode of operation and
identify solutions in helping clients meet their strategic,
financial and operational objectives.* Effectively partner with
other parts of COMPANY to align the business development function
and ensure all parts of COMPANY are brought to market to maximize
value to COMPANY.* Successfully implement agreed upon business
development strategies including appropriate sales, marketing,
communication plans and pricing strategies that will result in
profitable new business for COMPANY* Ensure proposals and
quotations offered to clients are appropriately priced and comply
with local regulations.* Represent COMPANY in in its relationships
with major customers, bankers, government bodies, professional
societies and similar groups.* Ensure that the appropriate
infrastructure exists to succeed in the market. This infrastructure
can be based within the Business Unit or elsewhere in COMPANY. Work
closely with appropriate Global Leaders to ensure local Business
Unit requirements are met efficiently and effectively for the
overall benefit of COMPANY.* Develop a thorough understanding of
COMPANY's corporate standards and philosophy and contribute to
their development within the COMPANY Group as a whole.* Oversee and
ensure compliance with those standards and monitor performance of
the members of the senior management team. If divisional best
practices are not appropriate, identify and seek approval for
alternatives.* Oversee and ensure continued growth and development
of the senior management team to perform the roles for which they
have delegated responsibilities including implementing corrective
action plans as required.* Implement best practices regarding
standards, practices, procedures and tools for each respective
function.* Work collaboratively with the COMPANY executives with
legal responsibility for the entities used by the Business Unit
(e.g. COMPANY Global, COMPANY Americas and others) so as ensure the
financial soundness of these entities.* Ensure the corporate
structure and business flows are such that the overall business
requirements are achieved.* Ensure development of a strong team of
reinsurance professionals, loyal to COMPANY and with a great spirit
of client service and engagement.* Set the culture of the operation
and contribute to the team building spirit within the Business
Unit. Balance local customs with the corporate culture of COMPANY.*
Ensure that all associates have timely goals and objectives in
place aligned to the strategy of the business in a timely manner.*
Ensure the business unit has appropriate governance in place to
meet COMPANY corporate and local requirements.* Ensure compliance
with all local laws and regulations and ensure reporting deadlines
and communications with regulating authorities are met.* Develop
and implement risk management procedures and policies and ensure
monitoring processes provide adequate information on
performance.Requirements Education and Experience Required:*
Bachelor's Degree* 20+ years of significant work experience in
different disciplines within the industry.* 15+ years of proven
management expertise building and leading professional teams.*
Significant financial acumen* Proven ability to successfully manage
teams with layers of management* Proven ability to deal/negotiate
with large (complex) clients* Experience of operation as a general
manager or a business unit leader within a large company* Proven
ability to work in matrix environment* Substantial direct insurance
or reinsurance experienceSkills and Abilities:* Clear, proven
leadership skills, including both motivational abilities and
strength of character to deal with conflicts and management of
diverse senior individuals* Professional competence* Must be
willing travel a significant amount of the time* Client focus*
Business acumen, including ability to think strategically while
managing to shorter-term requirements.* Decision maker* Ability to
analyze complex financial and business information.* Capable to
deliver projects on time within budget* Effective presentation
skills* Ability to think creatively and strategically* Solution
oriented* Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment* Collaborative and
a team player* International outlook* Seeks agreement or settlement
in contentious or potentially contentious situations, and with
ability to impose agreed solution* Candidates must be able to
communicate well (in differing styles) with all levels of local and
global staff, clients and market influencers. In particular the
role requires regular interaction with all local staff and with
senior executives globally.* A high level of personal
accountability, integrity, transparency and honesty.* Activities
require the balancing of a number of objectives within a given
timeframe by drawing on various resources. Identification and
weighting of new and diverse consequences using recognized
criteria. Adaptation of methods to obtain an appropriate result in
an unprecedented situation.
