Overview









About the role:This is an opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated attorney to join the world-class team of professionals responsible for developing, owning and operating LS Power's innovative and growing portfolio of electric transmission infrastructure. As Senior Counsel, Regulatory, you will have primary responsibility for regulatory-related legal matters for all of LS Power's electric transmission businesses nationwide. The successful candidate will have both a meaningful role and an opportunity to develop professionally with the support of collaborative and experienced peers.













Responsibilities









What you will do:

Support LS Power in matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), state regulatory commissions and regional transmission operators, including ratemaking,comment drafting, administrative proceedings, and compliance matters.Serve as primary in-house attorney responsible for interpreting and advising on matters arising from regional transmission owner agreements, applicable transmission owner tariffs, ISO/RTO tariffs, and applicable laws, regulations and procedures.Support the processing of interconnection requests and associated activities, including drafting and negotiating related documentation.Identify and analyze legal issues, and present clear, well-reasoned legal recommendations to clients reflecting a thorough appreciation of the business objectives and constraints.Ensure actions taken by the company are consistent with applicable laws and regulations.Stay informed of relevant news and developments in the power business, including new orders issued by regulators from time to time.Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risk exposure, and explain and balance risks and rewards of a particular course of action.Recommend, retain, and manage outside counsel as needed to cost-efficiently achieve objectives.Oversee and assist with occasional dispute resolution and litigation as needed.Collaborate and build strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including finance, tax, regulatory, accounting, project development and asset management.Perform other responsibilities as identified from time to time.













Qualifications

  • Hold a J.D. degree and have a strong academic record.
  • Are licensed to practice law in at least one state.
  • Have at least 7-10 years of complex regulatory experience.
  • Have in depth knowledge of the electric utility business, including applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Are experienced with FERC regulation, including rates, tariffs and service matters.
  • Have experience practicing before FERC and/or other state, federal, and/or regional regulatory bodies (administrative proceedings, rulemakings, etc.).
  • Are able to assess business challenges, make pragmatic recommendations under pressure and identify, prioritize and resolve issues quickly and independently while balancing legal risks against business interests.
  • Have excellent work ethic, communication skills, drafting skills, and business judgment.
  • Have the ability to deliver a high level of client service and perform excellent work under time pressure.
  • Are willing to develop skills in new areas, and flexibility to assist the legal team in its activities and its mission as needs arise.
