Lead Software Engineer for Phantom Works to join the Autonomy & AI
Integration Software team in Berkeley, MO. This position will focus
on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business
organization.Phantom Works is Boeing's advanced research and
development division, responsible for engaging customers through
cutting-edge visual modeling and simulation, innovating
cross-cutting concepts and technologies, prototyping solutions to
enhance current products, winning new programs, and developing new
businesses to enter emerging markets.As the Chief Autonomy Lead
Software Engineer, you will lead a team in a professional
environment, developing innovative approaches to enable autonomous
capabilities on Boeing platforms. This role involves both in-house
development and collaboration with third-party vendors. Your key
responsibilities will include developing requirements and
architecture for autonomous systems, designing software for
autonomous aircraft, and managing a large volume of software
products from various sources. You will build close relationships
with business unit program teams, engineering teams, suppliers, and
customer organizations to develop key technologies, expand our
Autonomy and AI portfolio, and execute live demonstrations for
future defense franchises. Additionally, you will mentor and coach
our talented team of engineers, fostering their career growth in
software development, integration, and certification.Position
Responsibilities:
- Create and lead development of autonomous systems software to
control, augment and enhance our autonomous aircraft portfolio
- Development of long term plans for implementing tools and
technologies that enable a robust, modern and flexible software
architecture
- Act in technical lead capacity for Boeing sponsored
demonstrations, on programs and in highly-visible large fleet
demonstrations using group 2-5 UAV's and surrogate UAV's
- Ensure sound software engineering principles are upheld while
supporting BDS customers with high-quality and timely program
execution software deliverables
- Prioritization of all software requirements
- Work closely with partner organizations, such as research labs
or subsidiaries, and other PW leaders to ensure Boeing is oriented
to become the leader in Aerospace Defense Autonomy
- Be familiar with flight dynamics and have some experience with
hardware as it relates to sensors, embedded systems, and systems
integration
- Utilize strong soft skills related to consensus-building,
communication, conflict resolution, and active listening
- Ensure alignment between strategic and technical roadmaps
- Identify new tools/technologies and evaluate them for
implementation
- Define, document and relentlessly improve processes related to
software workflow, prioritizing simplicity and adaptability We work

will remove you from consideration. Basic Qualifications (Required
Skills/ Experience):
- Secret Clearance or above pre-start
- 14 years of software engineering experience
- 5 years of experience with autonomous systems and/or autonomy
techniques
- 6 years of team leadership experience
- 10 years of C++ development experience
- 10 years of Python development experience
- 3 years of experience with Open Architecture standards,
specifically OMS Preferred Qualifications (Desired
Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study
in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing
engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data
science, or computer science
- 5 years of experience in integrating complex applications on
Windows and Linux platforms
- Experience developing mission systems software on aircraft
platforms
- Domain knowledge of Mission Systems Software development
- Real time software development experience
- Experience with version control systems such as Git
- Experience as a software architect
- 5 years of experience with Open Architecture standards,
specifically OMS
- Experience with DevSecOps and/or complex software build
plans
- Experience supporting flight demonstrations
- Experience with Continuous integration practices
- Experience with Agile Software development process
- Experience developing and testing software on cloud
