Job Description:
The Telecom Engineering Technician functions in a technician
capacity, working primarily in the field, to gather data for
engineering and design of aerial, underground, and buried fiber
optic facilities. This position requires frequent travel around St.
Louis, MO and up to 50% travel to Wichita, KS and occasionally
other metro areas to take pictures, measurements, document existing
facilities, and obtain design information in preparation for OSP
network design. Although this position predominantly involves field
work, it will also require completion of administrative tasks as
required by project leadership. Based on experience, skill level,
and project needs, there is a potential for this position to move
over into more complex field data collection.
Responsibilities: Under close supervision, performs basic functions
requiring technical knowledge utilizing electronic applications,
processes, standards and document control processes/procedures for
the purpose of creating or modifying deliverable.
Evaluates methods used to accomplish the drafting and/or design
activities.
Limited Overnight Travel.
Will follow company travel policy at all times.
Will follow company safety policies.
Engineering Standards: Continues to learn and apply standards,
systems, document control, departmental guides and company policies
and procedures.
Quality/Continuous Improvement: Ensures that deliverables are
accurate and compliant by continually developing knowledge of the
companies Quality Program. Demonstrates personal accuracy and
supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
Engineering Production: Broadens knowledge of the applications
required to modify and develop less complex deliverables based on a
variety of design inputs. May assist with minor computations such
as material quantity estimates and dimensional checks.
Project Coordination: May assist in coordinating deliverables with
other groups involved on the same project to minimize interference
or errors.
Client Focus: Focuses on the needs of internal clients while
attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main
interests and drivers.
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Proactively seeks and
shares knowledge of latest technologies and processes.
NOTE: Professional must reside in the St. Louis, MO area as that is
where all of the field work is being conducted. Will work going out
in the Field and spend 50% of the time travelling to Wichita, KS
for field work. Professional will need to pay for and then expense
for gas and food (hotel and rental car will be booked by
Company).
Basic Qualifications: Diploma or Certificate preferred
Typically, a minimum of 1+ year related work experience, prefer 3+
years of related field experience
Prior OSP/ISP or Wireline data collection/site walk experience
Individual must be available to mobilize when scheduled and possess
a valid driver's license and pass a MVR check
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word,
PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
Must be able to stand, bend, squat, walk, move, lift, carry---
equipment (> 20lb) for the duration of the workday
Preferred Technical Competencies: Intermediate knowledge of
Computer Automated Drafting Design (CADD) or other applications or
design or modeling skills.
Basic knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document
control, departmental guides and B&V policies and
procedures.
Basic industry knowledge and technology trends
Basic knowledge of company quality program
Basic ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as
assigned.
