Job Description:
The Vascular Sonographer demonstrates a clear understanding of
vascular anatomy and physiology. He/she must be well versed in
defects and diseases of the circulatory system and know how to
clinically apply ultrasound to detect those diseases/defects. The
Sonographer's scanning skills must be accurate and decisive in all
testing environments. They must be willing to grow and help their
peers grow professionally in the skills of Vascular Sonography.
Sonographers must possess excellent communication skills to
effectively meet the needs of patients and families and provide
quality studies for the healthcare team to determine clinical
treatment. Responsible for adhering to all established hospital
policies and is a responsible steward of equipment and
supplies.Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent1. Performs
full spectrum of Vascular Lab testing 15%-- Operates ultrasound
equipment to obtain and retrieve studies-- Copies studies to CD for
patient needs-- Performs vascular exams with appropriate presets to
obtain quality studies-- Retrieves and reviews previous reports for
comparison to current studies-- Verifies MD orders, documents
testing as appropriate2. Conducts 2D/Color Flow/Spectral Doppler
Vascular examination 60%-- Captures all views required for
visualization and interpretation-- Obtains appropriate measurements
for each modality.-- Capable of performing two exams/hour--
Performs exams at the bedside as needed for efficient department
workflow and infection control purposes3. Performs office tasks
5%-- Performs office tasks as assigned-- Ability to retrieve
reports from computer-- Ensures computer processing of test results
and distribution.-- Answers phones promptly and politely.4.
Participates in Quality Assurance Activities 5%-- Maintains
critical value logs as indicated-- Reviews images in digital
archive to assure accuracy and personal growth through review and
revision-- Actively participates in department / hospital Q/A
projects5. Maintains clean, safe environment 5%-- Cleans and stocks
procedure rooms daily-- Assesses ultrasound equipment for
functionality-- Trouble shooting equipment malfunctions-- Observes
basic infection control practice with patients-- Observes
electrical and fire safety precautions6. Performs 'on call'
vascular lab exams as assigned. 5%7. Maintain CME requirements for
registry 1%8 Performs other related duties as assigned or
requested.4%TOTAL: 100%1. High School graduate orGED. 2. Graduate
of accredited Vascular Sonography program 3. Current and in good
standing as Registered Vascular Sonographer.Two years current
experience in the clinical field. Problem-solving skills. Effective
interpersonal skills. Considerate to the age-specificJob
Relationships: Member of a comprehensive healthcare team, including
other health care providers, the patient, the patient's family, and
significant others. Takes direction from: Vascular lab Manager,
Medical Director, and Peer Sonographers Provides direction to:
Students and Vascular Sonographers Supervised by: Vascular lab
ManagerEmployee is required to walk occasionally and sit
continuously. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) load
occasionally. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs with
assistance. Employee is occasionally required to bend, squat,
crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is
occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For
repetitive action, employee is required to perform simple grasping
and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical
hazards and CRT terminal work. Employee must demonstrate verbal and
cognitive skills, as well as motor coordination and manual
dexterity. Speech, hearing, and near-visual acuity are required.
May be needed to work any shift within 0700-1730 Monday - Friday.
On call rotation is required as assigned. Employee is occasionally
exposed to blood borne pathogens. (Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently:
34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%) The most significant of duties are
included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not
