St. Luke's Women's Center

The St. Luke's Women's Center Nurse Practitioner, under the supervision of the Surgical Director of the Women's Center, will provide care for patients as defined by the Missouri Nurse Practice Act and departmental defined job duties. This Nurse Practitioner will work closely with the Radiologists, Surgeons, and other multi-disciplinary clinicians to collaboratively design a patient care plan for optimal outcomes. The Nurse Practitioner will triage the high-risk and/or breast cancer patient and facilitate needed healthcare across service lines within effective and realistic timeframes. The Nurse Practitioner, as a vital part of the Women's Center Team, will be integral in the enhancement of health outcomes, increased patient satisfaction and reduced costs of care. The Nurse Practitioner is expected to perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values. -Principle Accountabilities: - - - -1. Nurse Practitionera. Functions as an independent Nurse Practitioner in the Women's Center providing a specialty service for women with breast disease, who require surgical assessment\intervention based on nationally recognized guidelines in collaboration with Dr. Nanette Wendel. -b. Is readily available to perform assessments on patients presenting with a breast problem; develop a plan in conjunction with the surgeons; communicate the plan to the patient and the referring physician and assure that the plan is implemented in an effective, efficient manner.c. Provides care to patients based on defined roles outlined in an interdependent collaborative practice agreement with delegation of authority as listed in Exhibit B.d. Performs and/or assists with biopsy procedures as requested.e. Collaborates with Breast Care Coordinators to appropriately identify women who are at high risk for future development of breast cancer. - Manages the consultation and follow up of all high-risk patients at St. Luke's Women Center and at our second location The Women's Center in - -Chesterfield Valley. This would include a review of their personal and family history to determine the need for genetic counseling, diagnostic testing, lifestyle modification education the management of medication prevention, or referral to a St. Luke's Women's Center Breast surgeon for further intervention.f. Attends quarterly meetings with a multidisciplinary team to review the needs of high risk women in our community and how our services are accommodating those needs.g. Assist all St. Luke's providers with the facilitation of genetic counseling and testing for hereditary cancer syndrome s at St. Luke'sprovides genetic testing services which includes phlebotomy, coordination of required documentation, and maintains supplies for each genetic company for all - patients of St. Luke's hospital who have completed formal genetic counseling and have met national, and insurance guidelines requirements (for testing of one or more genes for hereditary cancer syndromes).h. Reviews the summary consults of all St. Luke's Women's Center patients who complete formal genetic counseling though the current contracted licensed genetic counselors and maintains frequent communication with the counselor as the patients' personal and family history is updated.i. Notifies St. Luke's Women's center - - patients of their genetic results and incorporates the results into the management of the patient, according to the current national guideline recommendations for the selected genes.j. Counsels St. Luke's Women's Center patients who do not require formal genetic counseling in regards to their personal and family history as suggestive of a hereditary and cancer syndrome. Provides treatment plans in accordance with the published guidelines for the management of patient with an elevated cancer risk that is associated with potential results from testing.k. Assists the Breast Surgeons with the evaluation and management of patients when need arises and schedule permitsl. Performs patient evaluations; takes medical histories and performs physical examinations, provides appropriate annotations in the medical record for all such evaluations performed.m. Orders diagnostic and therapeutic services; orders radiographic, laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures for the purposes of diagnosis and/or treatment.n. Performs other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as appropriate.o. Assists with appropriate referrals to supportive services such as support groups, community resources, counselors and/or other appropriate services.p. Assesses patient's psychological and social needs, provides early intervention, support and recommends referral to community healthcare providers as indicated. - Will monitors patient's total response to treatment for optimal outcomes.q. Advocates for the needs of breast cancer patients and their families.r. Conducts and/or participates in research protocols that have been accepted by the Hospital IRBCommittee.s. Works in collaboration with Breast Care Coordinator to triage patient needs, and for scheduling of patients. -

The assessment, care and treatment by the Women's Center Nurse Practitioner will be consistent with the specific age-related needs of the patient. The Women's Center routinely provides care to adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults. -Women's health experience requiredNP experience required - -

Working Conditions:
Employee is required to sit continuously and walk occasionally. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) medium (21-50 lbs.) and heavy (50 lbs. +) load occasionally. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to use both hands for simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work. Verbal and cognitive, as well as motor coordination and manual dexterity. Speech, hearing, and near-visual acuity are required. May need to work any shift due to 24-hour day, 7 days per week operation. Employee is occasionally exposed to blood borne pathogens. (Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%) The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties. -Job Relationships: Member of a comprehensive healthcare team, including other health care providers, the patient, the patient's family and significant others. -Takes direction from: Surgical Director of the Women's CenterProvides direction to: Nurse and secretarial staff.Supervised by: Director of Oncology Services and Surgical Director of the Women's Center -
